What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?

The latest trend in Hollywood Films and TV Drama, wherein actors – mostly female – mumble and mutter their lines as though they are talking to themselves and not the audience. It is beginning to spread to young actors in the UK. It is my contention that Hollywood output should now be billed as a Foreign Language, with the attenuating addition of sub-titles.
